Absolut is still produced in the small southern Swedish town of Åhus, using winter wheat from the surrounding province, Skåne.

The wash is distilled to a strength of around 90% alc./vol. then rectified through four different column stills to around 95% alc./vol. A little ‘character’ is added to this very pure and almost neutral spirit with the addition of a less pure, lower strength spirit. This flavouring spirit is made from specially selected grain that undergoes a different and separate wash process and is distilled more gently to a lower proof. Although it comprises only a low percentage of the finished vodka, it helps give Absolut its malty flavour. Unlike many other vodkas, Absolut has no added sugar, is not charcoal filtered and does not undergo any other form of chemical filtration.
