Industrias Pampero C.A. was established in 1938 by Alejandro Hernández, the son of a fisherman from Isla de Margarita. It is now owned and operated by Diageo plc.

The Pampero name comes from the term for meteorological conditions common in the Pampas of South America which cause sudden strong winds driving extreme humidity, severe rains and powerful thunderstorms.

Pampero rums are nicknamed Caballito Frenao, literally ‘Bitten Horse’ by Venezuelans in reference to the brand’s logo of cowboy riding a wild horse in the Venezuelan plains.
