SpiritsNL and NBC launch 2020 oneUNIT competition

Bartenders in the Netherlands are challenged to create a cocktail with only one unit (12.5ml) of alcohol for their chance to become an ambassador for the oneUNIT campaign in 2021, alongside last year's winner Raysa Straal, as well as Mads Voorhoeve, Daryl Lieuw-On, Lennart Deddens and Eddy Trenedad.

The first oneUNIT competition in 2020 celebrates female bartenders and takes place on 8th March, which is coincidentally International Women's Day, at cocktail bar Bricks Hooch & Brew, The Hague.

Exclusive to female bartenders, the first round will be judged by a jury consisting of leading bartenders. There's no time to waste in creating your one unit cocktail. Sign up by 5th March 2020.

The second round in the competition will be held at The Rumah in Rotterdam in May 2020. All bartenders across the Netherlands will be invited to compete and will be challenged with a Songfestival theme. The winners of the two rounds will then go on to compete during the Horecava 2021. The ultimate champion will receive an award and become the face of the oneUNIT campaign in 2021.

Consumers also have an opportunity to get involved this year, with a third and final round taking place at The Stockroom, Groningen, in September. They will also be challenged to create a one unit cocktail, and previous bartending experience is not a requirement. The contestants will be competing for the first-ever consumer award and a spot in the oneUNIT jury.

The first round in the competition is now open until 5th March 2020. Competitors must pass the quiz based on the oneUNIT campaign as well as their cocktail recipe.

SpiritsNL, the trade association of importers and producers of spirits, and NBC, the Nederlandse Bartenders Club, created the oneUNIT campaign with aims to increase awareness of healthy and responsible living. Find out more about the oneUNIT competition including the rules and regulations.
