Masala Chai Tea

Masala chai tea refers to a blend of black tea leaves (often Assam) and traditional Indian aromatic spices. This is brewed with water and usually combined with milk and sugar. However, as a cocktail ingredient, brew with boiling water and omit the milk and sugar.

"Masala" (मसाला) refers to the blend of spices and "Chai" (चाय) mems tea. So masala chai literally means "spiced tea." Typical spices used in the blend include cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and black pepper, often also with spices such as nutmeg, star anise, fennel seeds, or vanilla.
