A bittersweet Manhattan-style lightly sparkling cocktail

I haven't tried it yet, and I don't have a carbonation device, but wonder if using sparkling water for dilution could work. The idea is skipping ice and cooling the cocktail in the freezer and adding 20 ml of heavily carbonated water before serving. Anyone has an opinion about this?

I liked it, despite Suze was obscured by the other ingredients. I chilled the cocktail in the freezer without ice, and then added 20 ml of Schweppes soda. The result is not really sparkling, but it improves the taste. I later added more soda, but it diluted the cocktail way too much, so be careful if you follow the same procedure.
