Thanks for your reply—and I completely understand the use of the “Adapted From” statement.

That said, while I respect Difford’s Guide’s editorial approach, this version of the cocktail might create confusion for readers. It could be worthwhile to also list the original (and unique) version, especially considering that the Honey Deuce cocktail is a registered trademark of the USTA.

Appreciate your attention to this, and always grateful for the work you do in elevating the conversation around cocktails.

Sadly, for the bartenders who’ve created contemporary classic cocktails and mostly go uncredited, let alone rewarded, it is not possible to trademark a recipe. There is no trademark category that covers recipes. More info here:
