Distillery Vapore del Commendator Gennaro Murgia was founded in 1882 by pharmacist Dr Gennaro Murgia Villacidro. At the time their was great demand for wine distillates due to cognac production's decimation by phylloxera. The insect destroyed the majority of European vineyards but Sardinian vineyards were initially saved due to the island's geographical isolation.
