Established during the Dutch colonial rule of Indonesia, in 1949, following Indonesian independence the brewery was renamed Heineken Indonesian Brewery Company. The Indonesian Government nationalised the brewery in 1957 and controlled the brewery for the next decade. In 1967, the brewery and the Bintang brand returned to Heineken’s control with the company later renamed Multi Bintang Indonesia.
