Indonesia’s favourite beer, Bintang, an American-style pale lager brewed domestically, is owned by Heineken, and like Heineken has a red star on its label. Some describe it as a localised Heineken beer.
Sampled on 28/04/2017
(sample bottle best before Oct/17) Clear, bright golden with thin off-white head.
Slight white crusty bread and tinned sweetcorn with faint grassy hops.
Light-bodied with lively carbonation. Crisp, clean and dry with mild sweet malty flavour and light grassy hops.
Dry, lightly grassy finish.
A pale lightly flavoured pilsner with no metallic or other off-flavours. Connoisseurs who may regard Bintang “bland” would be thankful of a cold glass served in the Indonesian heat. But yes, this beer has a light style.
