Co-founders Angus and Howard met in 1995 while working as sailing instructors at Salcombe's Island Cruising Club before they each pursued successful careers elsewhere. Fast forward to 2014 and the friends found themselves back in Devon where their common love of gin and the coastal town of Salcombe led to the establishment of their distillery.

Building of Salcombe Distilling Co's distillery 'The Boathouse' commenced in 2015 with their first gin, 'Start Point' released the next year.
