A limited release of 300 bottles in October 2015, Sipsmith’s Raffles 1915 Gin commemorates the 100th anniversary of when Ngiam Tong Boon, Head Barman at Raffles’ Long Bar is credited with creating the Singapore Sling cocktail.
Sipsmith boasts something of a link with Singapore as the founder of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles is great, great, great uncle of Sam Galsworthy, Sipsmith’s co-founder, who’s full name is actually Stamford. When Peter French, President of Raffles Hotels & Resorts, learnt that Sam was related to the man after which his hotel group was named, he invited Sipsmiths to create a gin for Raffles.
Sipsmith Raffles 1915 Gin was created by Sipsmith Master Distiller, Jared Brown who used botanicals inspired by the Malaysian peninsula, including jasmine flowers, fresh pomelo peel, lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaf, nutmeg and cardamom. These were distilled with more classic London dry gin botanicals such as juniper, coriander and orris root.
