Serve in

Rocks glass

Garnish:

Sea salt and cracked pepper rim and a blood orange slice

How to make:

Prepare your rocks glass by wetting the rim with a piece of blood orange. Using a mixture of 2:1 sea salt and cracked black pepper, rub wet rim of glass and coat lightly.

Add all liquid ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir gently for 15 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with a blood orange wheel.

*Special note. The cherry syrup used in this margarita is the syrup from the jar of Luxardo Maraschino cherries.

Origin:

During the peak of Covid-19 lockdowns in Nashville, Tennessee, I found myself with limited ingredients in my kitchen but a very strong desire to make a good, quality cocktail. The O.M, or Old Fashioned Margarita combines two of my favorite drinks, the classic margarita and the old fashioned into one, utilizing ingredients that were already in my home. The earthy, oakey notes of the Patrón reposado pairs perfectly with the bitter citrus in the blood orange. The warm, rich flavors of the maraschino cherry syrup are carefully offset by the orange and aromatic bitters. Everything is brought together with a 50/50 blend of salt and pepper on the rim of the glass. Now, I don't have to choose between two different drinks. I have the best of both in one glass!
