Kahlúa could be said to encapsulate the very idea of a regional product. Every drop of Kahlúa is created in Mexico, specifically in Mexico City, using ingredients grown and harvested in Veracruz, to the capital's east.

Acquired by Pernod Ricard when the group purchased Allied Domecq in 2005, Kahlúa's production has changed comparatively little over the years.

The last significant change to its core recipe was a shift in alc./vol. in 2003 (so before its acquisition) apparently in response to consumer feedback. Yet Kahlúa was first created in Mexico in 1936, and 77 years later it remains very much a product of the Mexico, every drop of the stuff still beginning its life here.
