The Clan Mackenzie first settled at the Muir of Ord, a little known peninsula in the Highlands north of Inverness, in 1598. In 1838, after distillation became legal, the Clan granted permission to Robert Johnson to build a distillery on their land: it is here that Glen Ord is distilled.

First distilled in 1838 and originally only used in blends, Glen Ord was lunched as a single malt in 1996. The Clan motto ‘I shine not burn’ adorns the bottle.
