Jason Atherton's succesful culinary empire takes in this two-floored Soho site, practically next to Milk & Honey. On the first floor is Blind Pig bar, an eclectically clubby area with a copper-topped bar: wood-pannelling meets New York loft.
With Jason Atherton having graduated from being one of Gordon Ramsay's proteges to a top, international chef in his own right, we've been fans since he first created a distinct bar area in his first solo project, the Social Room at Pollen Street Social, and gave his bar team free rein to create something original and distinctive. Unlike so many restaurants, drinks were never an after-thought or just something to kill the time before dining. With the Poland Street site the concept has moved up a gear and the bar team, led by group bar manager Gareth Evans, has been given even more room to have fun with the drinks.
And fun they are: punnily named twists on classics from the Ooh-arr-tinez to Dill or no Dill, Scrub a Dub Dub, and the We Speak No Americano. Plus they look the part - from the Thermo-nuclear Daiquiri that glows green like something that's escaped from the nuclear plant in The Simpsons, to the home carbonated cocktail served in a copper cup. Cocktails also marry in decanters on the back-bar. Serious about drinks, relaxed in their approach, everything is made with technical precision and comes beautifully balanced. Good chat from the bartenders ticks another box.
Brilliant bar snacks too: pork sliders, fat chips and duck rillettes separate the menu from the notably good food served downstairs.
