This beerhall-styled pub is based on the grand cafes of Holland and Belgium - particularly two celebrated Brussels bars, La Mort Subite and the Falstaff. Polished chrome fonts line the long, zinc, pewter rimmed counter while the back bar features a towering display of wine and bottled brews. Rows of long, narrow, dark wooden tables are mounted on tracks, which enable them to be moved but prevent annoying wobbles. The walls are lined with leather banquettes and benches.
There's a choice of 16 draught and over 100 bottled beers, all listed by category on the extensive menu. Headings include pilsner, blonde, golden ale, Trappist, abbey, amber and wheat beers, while taster trays of three or six beers served in 1/3 pint glasses are available for those who wish to explore. An easy option for the indecisive is to try the 'beer of the week'. Other highlights include the friendly table service, interesting wines (10 by the glass) and a 'deli menu'.
