Walk in off the residential stretch that is Northeast Broadway, traverse Hale Pele's dinky bridge and enter the escapist world of tiki and killer rum-based cocktails.

The three hand-carved tiki gods that preside over the sunken bar are ugly mutts but thanks to slick overhead lighting they flip from anaemic to sunburned. Woven palm walls, bamboo roof rafters, illuminated pufferfish, glass floats and a carved canoe hanging over the bar. Occasional sounds of thunder and wisps of 'volcano' smoke add to the somewhat surreal atmosphere.

Paddy and the other skilled bartenders turn out some fabulously punchy rum cocktails - both house creations and tiki classics. The impressive display of rums is curated and labelled by country of origin.
