Review

Originally a pop-up, the Broken Shaker has been a permanent fixture at the funky Indian Creek Hotel since late 2012. Housed in a room not much larger than six meters (20 feet) square, the bar looks out onto a huge courtyard with palm trees.

Inside the tiny room which houses the bar has seating for little more than a handful around its walls and is made even more intimate and homely by objects cluttering the walls and shelves. Drinkers tend to stand clustered by the bar despite the warm evenings and plentiful outside seating.

The Broken Shaker is widely regarded as one of Miami's best cocktail bars, mainly due to Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta who are the driving force behind the bar and its fortnightly changing cocktail menu.

Be warned, one glamorous South Beach resident I met in Zuma said "The Indian Creek Hotel is little more than a Youth Hostel so does not attract the kind of people I want to drink with." The Broken Shaker may not attract the upscale crowd that frequent Zuma but this courtyard bar has a great vibe and an enviable outside space.
