Cloud 23 is set on the 23rd floor of tallest building in Manchester. This 47-storey skyscraper has a slightly unfinished look, making for a hard to miss ‘Hilton’ labelled landmark.
The Hilton Hotel occupies the first 23 floors with this, the hotel’s bar, occupying the double-height 23rd floor and offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding area including the set of Coronation Street, red brick warehouses and the odd canal. Two portholes in the floor also allow a vertigo inducing glimpse downwards.
Cloud is a place to be seen, so expect girls in posh frocks and a red roped line-up to the express lift in the lobby. If not on the guest list expect a toll to experience the 15 second ride up to the 23rd floor where staff great each arriving lift and offer attentive table service from that moment on.
The drinks menu is well devised with signature drinks plus household name classics. A brief description of a cloud runs across the food of each page. ‘Cirrocumulus’ for example are, "Thin high altitude clouds that form distinct patchy and/or lightly tufted sheets, usually slightly wavelike in appearance.” Interesting.
