Sign? No it's 'Sygn' and thing is, there isn't one. This is a bar without a name and what name it has is misspelt. It's also somewhat flamboyant, describing itself as "A shining pink beacon in the heart of Edinburgh's West End". Now I know what you're thinking but this is not a gay bar. Far from it.
The boudoir design ethos incorporates pink and black floral wallpaper, a pink backlit bar, black granite bar counter, big squashy cushion covered sofas and bucket seats. Large glass doors open out onto the cobbled street and a handful of tables and chairs while a back room with booth seating serves as a cosy dining area.
Predictably the bar menu is pink and black; it even has a category of cocktails listed under the heading 'Flamboyant'. Fortunately not all here is flamboyant and the extensive selection includes many classic cocktails, which judging by my Daiquiri, are well made.
Sygn has a great buzz about it and attracts a good-looking crowd. Apart from the decor, not much I can find to fault.
