Review

The folk at North certainly love their beer. The bar may make a subtle nod in the direction of cocktails, but anyone who comes through these doors knows what they should be ordering and its not a Piña Colada.

There are usually 16 draught beers on offer and too many bottled beers to count – although I am told it is usually at least 70. These come from Germany, Belgium, the US, Mexico, Holland, Blighty and beyond, backed by an ever-changing selection of appropriately local cask ales and bitters.

The menu offers “proper food” and this includes the ‘just a pie’, a ‘pie and peas’, hot dogs, cheese and bread and let’s not forget Scampi Fries (for non UK readers these probably aren’t what you’re expecting.

The long narrow space has lime green walls, school-like tables and chairs, bad sound acoustics and an almost industrial bier hall feel. We loved it.
