Jamie's Italian in Islington is housed in the glass super-structure known as the Angel Building. While the global chain of restaurants is well-known for its food, this branch also boasts a sizeable bar with a menu heavily influenced by the Italian theme.
Lying to the left of the entrance, the room is dominated by the island bar, an impressively large polished metal wrap around counter top with a stunning pyramid-shaped back bar centerpiece. Overall the open plan space and floor length glass windows give the feeling of a slightly rustic warehouse.
Comfy red leather booths line the room but, as ever, our favourite drinking spot is at the bar, perched on the high stools. The drinks list is made up of Italian aperitifs and spritz along with well-made classics and a tempting selection of dessert-style cocktails. Drinks are well balanced and the free antipasti Italian tradition has been embraced with generous amounts of free food offered to drinkers during 'Aperitivo Hour', Monday to Friday 5pm-7pm.
This bar is a delight to visit whether you're eating here or not.
