Review

This gastro pub is hidden away on a back street in one of the less salubrious suburban areas of Archway, ten minutes' walk from either Archway or Tufnell Park underground stations. A change of management led to a refurbishment of the Victorian boozer in June 2012, and with it came a good looking interior, cosy back yard and much improved offering.

A blood red leather chesterfield sofa and two accompanying high wing back chairs sit centre of the room, surrounded by wooden tables and chairs, exposed brickwork, ornate antique mirrors and an open fireplace.

The well compiled, eclectic and good value wine list offers 28 bins with ten available by the glass. Timothy Taylor Landlord is a regular amongst the three cask ales, with San Miguel and Peroni lagers also on draught and backed up by a good range of bottled ciders, ales and lagers. Unusually for a pub, well-made tasty cocktails are also on offer.

The food menu is a step above your average gastro pub grub with the likes of "potato crusted corn fed chicken breast, Alsace bacon and pickled white cabbage". We've enjoyed the food here but locals tell us it's failed to woo all.
