Review

Hefner straddles the corner of Kantstrasse and Savigny Platz in Berlin’s leafy Charlottenburg district and successfully manages to be both a local’s café and an upscale cocktail lounge.

Large windows on two sides and minimalist furnishings make this a light airy bar. On clement days the doors are thrown open to the pavement terrace where tables nestle under large umbrellas.

Mid-week this is predominantly a locals’ place with probably as many cups of coffee served as cocktails, but late night and at the weekends Hefner morphs into a stylish cocktail lounge with one of the best drinks menus to be found in Berlin. The “Mai Tai Original 1950s”, made with Creole Shrubb, Clement VSOP and Appleton 12 is a must try – a great neighbourhood bar that’s worth journeying to visit.
