Mahiki

Warning! Only descend the stairs to Mahiki’s two floors of subterraneanial Polynesian-themed escapism if you are up for a party. It might not be as slick as Park Lane’s Trader Vics, but this Tiki bar has a good deal more sole.

The upper floor “Lanai Lounge” is meant to be reminiscent of an upscale safari camp with walls lined with black bamboo and lahaula mats Plants are supposed to reflect a tropical backdrop. Descend further to the “Aloha Party Room” and expect funky tunes and an even funkier interior. Bright orange banquettes are over-hang by 1970’s lampshades. A bar curves around the wall and the centre of the room is filled tropical plants behind glass.

Lethal cocktails based on the huge rum selection and served in pineapples, watermelons, coconuts, ceramic skulls, diver’s helmets and even a treasure chest are the preferred libation.
