Glenfiddich 21-Year-Old is matured in ex-bourbon casks for 21 years before blending and finishing for up to 4 months in ex-Caribbean rum casks, so infusing some of the rum’s toffee, fig and vanilla.
The latest Glenfiddich 21-Year-Old packaging, released in February 2012, features the sub-branding, 'Gran Reserva', which to quote the press release, "alludes to the single malt Scotch whisky's exceptional quality." An intricately designed filigree pattern embellishes the bottle's label and box and should you be concerned about the statue of your newly acquired bottle, then you'll find it handily comes complete with its own display plinth.
Review and Tasting

Clear, golden amber with a slight coppery hue.
Fruity vanilla nose with banoffee pie, baked pear, figs barley water and nubuck leather/fudge. Whiffs of ginger spice.
Starts by lulling you in with soft barley water and boiled sweet sweetness, then out of nowhere comes a brutish peppery enlivening burst with a wisp of smoke, root ginger, dry spicy oak clove, ginger and lime zest.
Long and spicy. Vanilla and leathery oak liberally dusted with finely ground black pepper.
