Fondly known as simply '101' after its proof alcohol, Wild Turkey 101 is has long enjoyed something of a cult status amongst bourbon aficionados. The Austin Nichols Distillery, which makes Wild Turkey, cultivates its own yeast strain and uses a mash bill that is high in corn with barley and rye.

Wild Turkey 101 is a blend of 6 to 7 years with some 8 year old bourbons. (Wild Turkey 101 was exclusively available in Europe with an 8 year old age statement but in 2012/13 it was bought in line with its domestic USA market.)

Appearance:

Clear, deep coppery amber.

Aroma:

Popcorn and toasty oak with buttery toffee, vanilla and faint orange zest.

Taste:

Full-bodied bourbon with a spicy kick of rye, dry oak, buttery, pepper and cinnamon spiced toasty corn with dried fruits, chocolate, cocoa, gingerbread, vanilla and toffee.

Aftertaste:

Burnt caramel and tobacco with orange zest, cinnamon and pepper spice. Spice lingers for some time.

Overall:

A bourbon that has the power and spice of a classic American rye whiskey but with sweet vanilla and smoothing buttery notes. Beautifully balanced.
