The Devil’s Cut name is a play on the notion of the ‘angel’s share’, the liquid lost to evaporation during maturation. However, in this case the bourbon is extracted from that trapped in the barrel’s wood during the aging process. This ‘woody’ bourbon is blended with 6 year old Jim Beam.

Released in the USA in May 2011, UK September 2012.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 28/10/2012

Appearance:

Clear, deep coppery amber.

Aroma:

Pungent, oak resin, pencil shavings, Muscovado sugar, tobacco and nuts with cinnamon spice.

Taste:

As the nose suggests a very woody palate with stewed tea tannins, vanillins, peanut butter, cracked black pepper and cinnamon spice.

Aftertaste:

Dry oak, cinnamon spice and lingering buttery bonfire smoke.

Overall:

All that spicy oak should stand up well to cola.
