Humming Ale is made using the same traditional methods as the breweries Liberty Ale, both are made using pale malt, are naturally carbonated by ‘bunging’ and both are dry-hopped but Humming Ale differentiates in its New Zealand hop called Nelson Sauvin.
The name is an ancient beer term which was used to describe strong effervescent ale. Humming Ale was created for Anchor Brewing’s 30th birthday but is now available each year between July to November.
Sampled on 21/10/2012
(best before Jul-14) Golden amber with a long lasting creamy white head and heavy lacing.
Orange and grapefruit zest, toasted and doughy bread with some herbaceousness.
Medium bodied with zesty, grassy and pine resign hops obvious but not overly domineering. Distinctive white grape-like fruitiness and underlying bready malt.
Cleansing citrus and faint pine lingering bitterness.
