Launched in January 2012, the fourth annual release Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range. Scots Gaelic for ‘skilled and ingenious’, Ealanta is a 19 Year Old Glenmorangie, matured in heavily toasted virgin American white oak casks made with oaks from the Mark Twain National Forest.
According to Glenmorangie, the use of virgin oak casks that have been heavily toasted adds “huge mouth-filling, buttery, creamy, vanilla flavours – somewhat like a crème brulée topped with almond and marzipan.”
Bottled without chill-filtration, Ealanta follows Sonnalta PX, Finealta and Artein in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range of rare and interesting limited edition whiskies selected by Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation at The Glenmorangie Company.
Sampled on 22/01/2013
Clear, golden amber.
Butterscotch, vanilla custard and creamy fudge with stewed fruit, brazil nuts and mild oak.
Slightly sweet, fudge, brazil nuts, stewed fruit and balanced spicy (ginger beer) oak.
Vanilla custard and dry spicy oak more evident in the medium finish, particularly clove and ginger with lingering buttery biscuit.
