Launched in 2012, this Poitin is a blend of double copper pot distilled spirit made from malted barley and a maize spirit made using a three column process. Both distillates are made at Cooley Distillery, the Teeling family's former distillery. This blend of new make spirits is bottled without aging
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 08/06/2015
Appearance:
Crystal clear.
Aroma:
Rum and raison ice-cream and half-baked bread. Water releases spice.
Taste:
Spicy with cracked black pepper spirit, sweet barley and raisin fruit. Pronounced black pepper spice - especially with water.
Aftertaste:
Dry, charcoal and bread dough with lingering rum & raison and white pepper spice.
Overall:
One of the few 'proper' poitins on the market. However, we have tasted the Dublin distilled Teeling new make spirit which is sweet and fruity, and look forward to this being used in this product.
