Launched in the USA in June 2010 and in the UK in January 2011, Smirnoff Blueberry is the eleventh addition to its line of flavoured vodkas, based on Smirnoff's No.21 vodka and flavoured by the addition of flavouring essences.
According to the 'helpful' PR: "The entire Smirnoff Flavours range is made from natural flavouring with at least 95 per cent of its composition from the fruit". From this we guess that the essence used to flavour this vodka as being made from 95 per cent concentrated extract of blueberry and 5 per cent extracted from some other, or many other, natural sources. Diageo were good enough to 'fess up to the fact this vodka contains 19 grams of sugar per litre.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 01/02/2011
Appearance:
Crystal clear.
Aroma:
The vaguely fruity nose is not obviously blueberry.
Taste:
Initial palate has a sweet burst of flavour which calms to rounded berry fruit with peppery spirit and a faint vanilla-like note.
Aftertaste:
Slightly sweet finish is reminiscent of that of a berry-flavoured boiled sweet.
