Based on a new 21st century recipe, hence the name, Bols Genever 21 has less malt wine and is generally lighter in style than the original Bols Genever making it more appealing to a wider audience.
Co-created by the Lucas Bols Master Distiller and Casper Reinders an iconic figure in the Amsterdam bar industry and owner of Jimmy Woo, Social Club, Ludwig, Lion Noir and Rose’s Cantina.
The bottle design incorporates a visual of the designer’s hand, Vincent de Waal, a Dutch artist whose work can also be found in Casper Reinder’s clubs and bars. Van de Waal’s work is known for its uncut nature.
Bols recommend enjoying Genever 21 with the Dutch ‘Slurping’ ritual or mixed as follows:
35ml Genever 21
10ml Maraschino liqueur
Top up with Lemon ice tea
Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Sampled on 13/10/2014
Crystal clear.
Lightly malty with white pepper, white wine vinegar notes and subtle genever.
Ever so slightly sweet but balanced with a refreshing peppery spice. Nutty bready malt wine is evident but lightly so and the spice botanicals are far more restrained when compared to Bols standard genever.
Spicy, fading with oily bready malt notes and faint white wine vinegar notes.
