Danziger Goldwasser (literally 'gold water of Gdansk' in German) claims origins dating back to 1598 and the city of Gdansk. This liqueur is said to have been a favourite of Tsar Peter and Catherine The Great.
Flavoured with roots and herbs its 'golden' name references the flakes of 22-carat gold leaf which dance in suspension in the liquid when the bottle is shaken.
Sampled on 01/04/2011
Crystal clear with flakes of gold leaf.
Aniseed, juniper and cinnamon nose with fresh cut grass and menthol aromas.
Liquorice, aniseed and cinnamon, which, while slightly sweet and syrupy, is far from cloying due to the balance of alcohol and hot cinnamon.
Prickly peppery, warm cinnamon finish.
