First released in 2005, Bernheim is regarded as being the first whiskey to use winter wheat as the main grain in its mashbill, Bernheim Original is made at the namesake Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky and aged Rickhouse Y at Heaven Hill's Bardstown facility.
Made with a mashbill of 51% wheat, 37% corn and 12% malted barley, as a 'straight' whiskey, Bernheim Original must be aged a minimum of two years in new charred oak barrels (obviously, it is actually aged a minimum of 7 years), distilled at less than 80% alc./vol. (160 proof) and contain no colouring, flavouring or blending additives.

Clear, deep coppery amber.
Honey, vanilla, toasty maple, caramel, leather, dried fruit, nutmeg and pencil shavings.
Toasty sweet maple, charcoal and vanilla with cracked black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and light clove spice.
Charcoal, sweet toasty maple, brown sugar caramel, nutmeg and light peppery spice.
Toasty sweet maple, charcoal and vanilla. Rich corn notes are balanced by dry toasty woody spice (nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper).
