This Swedish gin is aged for 30 days in small 39.25 litre casks made of juniper wood and is said to the world’s first juniper wood matured gin. The stopper and bottle neck are hand-dipped in beeswax. Hernö Juniper Cask Gin was first released in London on the 9th of September 2013.
Hernö Gin is distilled in Northern Sweden using a 250 litre copper pot-still (steep and boil method) called Kierstin with organic eight botanicals: juniper, coriander, meadowsweet, cassia, black pepper, vanilla, lingon berries and lemon peel.
Sampled on 28/09/2014
(sample batch 11, bottle 6/99). Clear, faint straw yellow tint.
Pungent, green sappy piney juniper, old oak wardrobe and cracked black pepper.
Intensely flavoured with juniper rightly dominating: notes of pine, overripe banana and eucalyptus. Enlivening cracked black pepper spice with zesty sweet orange/grapefruit.
Zesty citrus and juniper finish. Overall: Brawny in style and strength with peppery pine flavours dominating.
