Jennifer Colliau is a Bay Area bartender who started making home-made syrups because she wanted natural handcrafted syrups to use in the cocktails she made. Turned out others wanted the same thing and her hobby has turned into Small Hand Foods.

Jennifer's orgeat (almond) syrup is made from California almonds and a small proportion of apricot kernels to give it a distinct "marzipan" flavour without the addition of any extracts. Organic cane sugar, orange flower water and California brandy are also added.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 01/06/2011

Appearance:

Very prone to separation in the bottle. After a good shake to combine we were still left with the odd lump and a powdery consistency. Opaque buff brown appearance.

Aroma:

Subdued marzipan-almond nose with wafts of floral citrus, honeysuckle blossom.

Taste:

Creamy, slightly sweet palate with delicate marzipan flavours. Palate is a continuation of the nose with more floral notes emerging.

Aftertaste:

Genuinely tasty and artisanal but perhaps would benefit from some industrial processing to help stability and appearance.
