St Peter's Without is brewed with water, malt, yeast and hops using a “proprietary production process involving both attenuated fermentation and the stripping out of residual alcohol by a unique process.”
Sampled on 21/08/2016
(sample bottle BB 09/Apr/17) Clear, deep chestnut amber with a thin but retentive off-white head and moderate lacing.
Roasted chestnuts, caramel with Bovril-like notes.
Moderately bitter citrus and grassy hops offset sweet roast chestnut and burnt caramel. Like the nose, the palate has a meatiness about it.
Grassy, lightly bitter finish with lingering burnt caramel.
We’ve found most of the “alcohol free beers” we’ve sampled disappointing, yet had high hopes for this “alcohol free ale” by St Peter’s, sadly we found it equally unbeer-like. Perhaps have a nice cup of tea instead.
