Since 2002, official Caol Ila bottlings have been 12 year old, 18 year old and cask-strength. Released in 2009, this 10 year old cask strength limited edition of only 6,000 bottles is the fourth limited release of unpeated Caol Ila and the first at ten years old.

It comes from a once a year only batch of unpeated malt made for blending in the “Highland Style”. It was aged in 1st fill Bourbon oak casks filled in 1998.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, pale gold.

Aroma:

Maple syrup/vanilla with gala melon skin, lime zest, sage and bitter marmalade.

Taste:

Starts sweet and remains firey with powerful pepper notes, sharp bitter orange and caramelised marmalade.

Aftertaste:

The oily, slightly green, still stokes that warming fire emitting wisps of smoke.
