This non-alcoholic, no sugar, spirit alternative by husband and wife, Chris and Rose Bax, is made using organic herbs, Sea Buckthorn berries and Seville orange. The distinctive label (made from waste sugar cane fibres) is of ultra-magnified plant cells.

Use as an alternative to gin to reduce the alcohol content in cocktails such as a Negroni, or serve 1 part Bax to 3 parts tonic water over ice garnished with an orange zest twist.

Bax Botanics was set up in 2018 by Chris and Rose Bax. Their aim: "to produce a drink that was a luxury treat for those not drinking alcohol."

"Filtered Yorkshire water and botanicals from Organic Herb Trading in Somerset are distilled, preserved and acidulated then bottled, all in the UK. Combining flavours from the wild with farmed ingredients has been a passion for the last 20 years and has resulted in the creation of Bax Botanics Alcohol-Free Spirits.

"Our botanicals are farmed in the UK where possible and when imported come from Fairtrade Suppliers. We believe in treading as lightly on the planet as possible, that follows with packaging and the suppliers we use. We are also conscious of health and we keep our drinks as pure as possible whilst keeping them safe and stable to store.

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Pungent and herbal (thyme and rosemary predominate).

Taste:

This is not designed to be drunk neat but when sampled is dry and herbal with underlying acidity.

Aftertaste:

If sampled neat then finish has an acidic bite.

Overall:

Bax Botanicals Sea Buckthorn signature serve (1 part Bax to 3 parts tonic) is a delicious herbal alternative to a G&T. This herbal flavour also works well as an alternative to gin in a Negroni to produce a cocktail that while lower in alcohol content remains full-favoured and is so good that many will prefer to a traditional Negroni. Unlike other "alcohol-free spirits," Bax is both moderately acidified and priced.
