Released March 2022, this is the sixth edition of Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin's Experimentum Series. This blend "2y06: London" is inspired by the over 3,500 pubs in England's capital and the traditional condiments served with a quintessential British Sunday Roast.

The Experimentum Series from Monkey 47 is a range of spirit blends based on Monkey 47's original recipe and distillation process, released several times a year in quantities limited to no more than 500 bottles worldwide. These blends are made using vacuum distillation and other alternative methods of aroma extraction.

For this 2y06:London edition, Monkey 47's Booze Lab, a dedicated area at the Wild Monkey Distillery, combined the refreshing flavour of mint sauce and the sharp taste of vinegar with sweet honey. The mint, from the brand's own herb garden, was finely chopped and blended with a reduction of vinegar and diced pearl onions to create a macerate that's finished with honey produced at the distillery's own farm.

Monkey 47 Experimentum Series 2y06 is available through a monkey47.com raffle and exclusively in Harvey Nichols' Knightsbridge store from 12th March 2022.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Complex and integrated with piney juniper, delicate honey, lavender, and light spice. Minty freshness is evident but does not overwhelm other botanicals.

Taste:

A generous 47% alc./vol. results in a full-flavoured botanically rich palate. Assertive piney juniper leads a crescendo of spice, floral, citrus, nutty and herbal flavours.

Aftertaste:

Long, piney juniper led and no less complex and satisfying as the palate. Fades with lightly spicy minty and citrusy freshness.

Overall:

Honeyed notes in this gin are well integrated with other botanicals but when compared to regular Monkey 47 gin, this Experimentum does appear to be both mellowed and flavoured by the honey. One of the best and most interesting gins I've had the pleasure to sample.
