The first distillery on this site was built in 1833 by George Connell who named his new distillery Burnfoot. It was later renamed Glen Guin, eventually becoming Glengoyne, which depending on who you ask either means ‘the valley of the geese’ or ‘the windy valley’.

The Glengoyne Distillery is geographically unusual as it straddles two different whisky regions. Its stills are in the Highland region, while its ageing warehouses across the road (A81) fall within the Lowland region.
