Finealta, pronounced 'Fin-Alta', is Gaelic for 'elegant' and this non-chill-filtered whisky is based on a recipe from the distillery's archives dating back to 1903. The recipe included marrying whiskies of different ages and from different cask types.

The light touch of peatiness in this malt comes from an era when the Glenmorangie Distillery used to dry its malted barley in a peat-fired kiln.

The packaging design for Glenmorangie Finealta is inspired by Art Nouveau.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 01/03/2011

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber with bright gold highlights.

Aroma:

A leathery fudge nose with vanilla, orange zest and subtle peach aromas.

Taste:

Diluting to 40% yields a richly flavoured slightly bitter (dry oak) palate with subtly peated vanilla, bitter marmalade, citrus and nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger spice.

Aftertaste:

More delicate peat smoke emerges in the long finish.
