Chase could call their blackcurrant liqueur ‘cassis’ but due to adding a minimal amount of sugar cannot call the product ‘crème de cassis’. European regulation dictate that a crème de cassis must have 400g sugar per litre but Chase preferred their flavour profile with just 320g/l sugar.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 03/01/2011

Appearance:

Clear, deep burgundy red.

Aroma:

Slight hint of spent shotgun cartridge to the rich, blackcurrant nose.

Taste:

Rich but not overly sweet palate with natural-tasting blast of raspberry fruit.

Aftertaste:

Rich fruit continues through the finish which is perhaps shorter than some crèmes de cassis, due to having less sugar – surely a good thing?
