East Green is a pale blonde beer designed to be made using the minimum amount of energy. It is brewed using Maris Otter malted barley grown and malted in East Anglia and Boadicea hops grown in Suffolk’s only commercial hop yard.

Boadicea hops were chosen to brew this environmentally friendly beer not only due to its local availability, but also due to its being naturally resistant to aphids so saving on the need for pesticides.

The folk at Adnams say Boadicea hops have a “fantastic grassy lemon quality that works so well with this beer. We use the hops at three stages during the brewing process in order to maximise the flavour we get from it”.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Clear, light bright golden amber with modest white head which disappears quickly.

Aroma:

Subdued with light citrus and subtle grassy hops.

Taste:

Light, moderately bitter with piny hops and faint lemon zest flavours. Not as characterful as some Adnams ales but fabulously approachable and thirst-quenching.

Aftertaste:

Faint pink grapefruit flavours linger on the dry malty finish.
