Appleton Estate 50 Year Old comprises rums that have been aged for 50 years in several oak casks originally filled and laid down just before Jamaica received its independence in 1962. Only 800 bottles were released when this rum was launched on June 7 2012 at Jamaica House in Kingston, Jamaica.

Appleton Estate 50 Year Old is packaged in a crystal decanter whose design and shape was inspired by Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum’s iconic bottle. The etchings and gold screen printing on the bottle take their cue from Jamaica’s National Symbols. It is finished with a gold finished brass and cork stopper and is presented in a black lacquered gift box with gold finished brass hinges and includes a commemorative booklet..

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 10/07/2012

Appearance:

Clear, dark mahogany with burnished copper highlights.

Aroma:

Pungent, boat yard oak and varnish with treacle, freshly split vanilla pod, cinnamon, maple and zesty orange marmalade. Faint bitter dark chocolate.

Taste:

Full bodied, dry oaky palate with treacle, orange marmalade and prune fruit.

Aftertaste:

Dry, tannic, oaky resinous finish with lingering cinnamon spice. Beware not to over dilute, this very old rum benefits from strength to hold its structure.
