Released in 2003 to celebrate the incorporation of the visitor centre at Bacardi's 'Cathedral of Rum' Puerto Rican distillery, Bacardi Reserva Limitada was only available from the distillery's gift shop until 2009.
The rums in the blend are 10-to-16 years old with an average maturity of 12 years, explaining the slightly misleading "with rums aged up to 12 years old on the back label", which is actually a reference to the rum's average age.
Sampled on 08/03/2014
(bottle No. 00133785) Clear, pale golden with a flight tint of orange and bright golden highlights (lighter than Bacardi 8).
Stewed fruit, soft brown sugar, cedar wood and tropical fruit/passion fruit nose with faint hints of varnish, nuts and the blue cheese/mushroom soup notes I find in Bacardi Superior.
Elegant, mellow, toffee, butterscotch, old leather and overripe banana palate with orange, lightly spicy oak and grilled almonds.
Long, lightly spicy finish with old leather, overripe banana, mushrooms and lingering walnut oil and soy sauce.
