In 1997, after the law against Poteen sales in Ireland was dropped, IDV launched Hackler Poitin in time for St. Patrick’s Day. It took its name from ‘The Hackler of Grouse Hall’, apparently a famous moonshiner in 19th century Ireland.
Made from malt, yeast, barley, water and sugar at Cooley Distillery, Hackler was scrapped less than eighteen months after its launch when IDV merged with UDV to form Diageo. As well as the standard 40% Hackler, a limited edition Hackler Gold at 87.7% was also produced.

Crystal clear.
Empty brown cardboard box, vanilla custard and a hint of toffee and distant cracked white pepper corns.
Slightly sweet, fudgy caramel, vanilla custard and creamy castor sugar, with vanilla extract and meek white pepper spirit notes.
Sweet, creamy, vanilla finish.
