Released in July 2013, this 2005 vintage prestige cuvee is blended from 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay. After vinification, the wine was aged for six years on lees with a dosage of 7g/L.

The Pinot Noir was sourced from Grands Crus vineyards throughout the Montagne de Reims (Mailly and Verzenay) while the Chardonnay is from the Premier Crus vineyards of the Côte des Blancs (Mailly, Verzenay, Villers Marmery and Trépail).

The 2005 vintage benefitted from ideal weather conditions with a cold, dry winter and then rapid vine growth encouraged by an early heat wave in June, followed by light summer rain and a warm dry September. Jacquart say “the vinification process was deliberately simple to retain fruit purity and expression, and the ageing of the wine was tailored to the character of the fruit with the aim of revealing the opulent, silky elegant texture of the wine.”

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 29/07/2013

Appearance:

Clear, pale golden with persistent tiny bubles.

Aroma:

Pronounced and attractive yeasty, biscuity aromas with fresh apple and faint citrus.

Taste:

Lemon citrus freshness and crisp acidity sit over freshly baked pastry and yeasty maturity with floral and nutty notes. Wonderfully balanced and structured.

Aftertaste:

The long elegant finish is a continuation of the palate. Great now but worthy of lying down.
