Launched October 2013, this Diplomático Single Vintage is a limited edition blended from rums distilled and put into cask in 2000. Made from molasses with a high 60% sugar content which undergoes a 48 hour fermentation. This was then distilled 90% in pot stills and 10% in a kettle batch system.

The spirit was aged 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon and ex-single malt whisky casks before finishing for a year in Spanish oak casks seasoned with oloroso sherry.

According to its distillers, Destilerias Unidas S.A. Dusa, "during 2000 a number of factors contributed to rare climatic conditions for sugar cane growth. Firstly there were particularly high temperatures during the day and much cooler nights than expected. This was followed by high humidity and lower than average rainfall, after an extremely wet year in 1999. These contrasting weather conditions played an integral part in creating one of the best sugar cane harvests in Venezuelan history."

Appearance:

Deep golden amber.

Aroma:

Tobacco leaf, spice, buttery fudge, vanilla and rich caramel with new leather, almonds and dried fruit.

Taste:

Rich, silky and incredibly flavoursome. Buttery fudge, caramel, golden syrup, vanilla oak, nutmeg spice, tobacco, dried apricots and fruit cake.

Aftertaste:

Tobacco, caramel, cinnamon and nutty spice with cloves and liquorice.
